Is The Ascent Cross Platform?
The Ascent supports two-to-four player online co-op via Xbox cross-platform and Xbox cross-gen compatibility.
Essentially, what this means is that those on Xbox consoles and those on PC who access the game through the Windows 10 Store/Xbox app can play together in The Ascent.
Those on PC who play the game through Steam, however, do not have cross platform compatibility due to it being a different ecosystem.
Where this also comes into play is in Neon Giant's distribution of patches for The Ascent. For whatever reason, Neon Giant is able to release patches earlier for those on Steam, compared to those connected to the Xbox ecosystem.
For example, The Ascent's Aug. 27 Patch 2 has just released on Steam, while it currently remains in deployment for those who access the title through the Windows 10 Store and Xbox consoles. Hotfix Patch 1 was initially deployed on Steam on July 29 before coming to Windows 10 Store and Xbox players on Aug. 4.
The Ascent released for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC on July 29, 2021.
