League of Legends Could Use More Voice Lines

"The joke's on you!"

Yes Shaco, I’m aware the joke’s on me. It’s been twenty minutes and you’ve told me this about eighty times. Please stop.

“Look… behind you.”

For the hundredth time Shaco, no I will not look behind me. Trying to focus here.

“This will be fun!”

Yes it will, but only if you find something else to say.

“The joke’s on-“

Alright. No. This has to end. Xayah’s voiceover is annoying, but at least she has more than seven things to say at any given time. Meanwhile, you’ll hear the entirety of Shaco’s voice-over at least a dozen times in a single game, possibly more. He needs a new voice-over – or at least more lines – stat.

Unfortunately, Shaco isn’t the only champion like this. Mordekaiser, Dr. Mundo, Jax – they all have fewer than ten voice lines. While it’s nice that they’re not prattling on about stars or Demacia all the time, it also means that they’re a lot less fun to listen to.

Half the time I want to mute my game when I’m playing Mordekaiser, just because he has nothing to say.

Meanwhile, newer champions have massive voice-overs that include interactions for warding, buying items, using health potions, and even unique lines for specific champions.

Playing a newer champion, then going back to an older one like Jax, is like giving up a five-course gourmet meal for a McDonalds hamburger. It serves its purpose well, but it sure doesn't satisfy you in the same way.

To be fair, it’s not easy for Riot to add more lines. They have to hire the original voice actor again, bring them into the studio, record the lines, process the lines, and then do the same thing for every other language that League of Legends is played in.

However, they’ve shown that they can expand champion voice-overs without a full rework with the recent change to Lux. Hopefully, this is something that Riot pursue more in the future -- I don't think I can take any more of Shaco's nonsense.
